Over the next week, we will be publishing a series of updates from our technical and business teams on what they have been up to in the first six weeks of term. Milad Farhangnia, Manager of the WR6 Chassis Team, opens up the series of reviews.
Coming into this year, we are aware that the main problems faced by the WR5 Chassis Team were down to timing; manufacturing issues and a late finish on the chassis left little time for testing on a design heavy component.
As such, I am aiming for the new chassis to be finished in December, and to be 20% lighter than its predecessor, which will allow for better handling.
So far, we are more than hitting the targets set. We have recently finalised our CAD designs and had them approved by IMechE – around two months before the designs of many other FSUK teams are expected to be signed off!
As well as the chassis design, our Finite Element Analysis is also finished. This analysis was simulation-based, putting the model we have designed under stress and torsion.
In terms of recruitment, 40 members have been engaged with design, and six have been recruited for manufacturing. In the coming weeks, the team will be receiving great insight and training from Autodesk, which we are very thankful for!
